What to Do when: you have nothing to wear

To be honest, I've been hell-a lazy about style for the longest because it takes a lot more work then you think.

Trying to figure out what to wear has legit been one of the most frustrating things for me. I've been there before when I'm literally standing in front of my closet, naked ,(with 10 minutes left to leave the house before I'm late) just staring blankly at my closet. Then I end up walking out my house looking blehhh.

I wasn't making style a priority, it was just an afterthought.

And if you’re reading this then you're probably in that same position where you're looking at your very full closet and thinking," nope, I have nothing to wear."

I can probably bet you do have something, even tons of things,  to wear. You’re  just not putting enough thought into it. But luckily you found me, because I’m ‘bout to be the best thing that ever happened to you!

Below I'm sharing the tips that helped me get out of my very frustrating outfit ruts. There’s even a workbook to help you along the way, so make sure to download it here before reading the rest of this post.

Wear the 80%

You probably don’t realize it but, it’s very likely that you wear the same clothes over and over again. In order to get the maximum out of your wardrobe you need to start wearing what I like to call “the 80%,”- the clothes that you’re not wearing. There are two ways you can do that.

One, you can re-organize your wardrobe. Move clothes around so that you’re not seeing the same pieces all the time. That way you’re less likely to wear the same things.

The second is to consciously wear the 80%. When you pick something out ask yourself, “is this something that I’ve worn in the past week of two?,” and if the answer is yes, pick something else to wear.

 Fill in the blanks

I get it, you’re prolly like “Girl I don’t wear those clothes for a reason. They don’t fit. They don’t look right,” etc.

If you have clothes you don’t wear they are likely clouding your judgement and making it harder for you to get dressed in the morning First, you need to do a closet clean out, but that’s not something I’m not going to get into today.

Get Inspired

If you know me then you know I love a good pinterest board. I like to build a pinterest board for each new season, so for example right now I have a winter pinterest board that I reference when I feel like I have nothing to wear.

But in order to use  pinterest you need to have a strong sense of what your personal style is. Pinterest is a way to bring the ideas that you have in your head to life. Its not about copying the looks you see, but taking them as inspiration and making them your own.

Play Dress Up

Literally take a coupe of hours over the weekend to just play dress up. Use the looks in your pinterest board and whatever comes to your head to experiment. But, be mindful. This isn’t going to work if your going for the same old things. Make sure you’re putting the effort to make new and fresh combinations. When you have a great look, snap and picture and save it for the next time you’re getting dressed.

Plan Your Outfits

I know this might sound crazy but just like you plan your meals and anything else in your life, it’s a good idea to plan your outfits. Getting dressed with intention takes effort. You can’t just wake up in the morning and know exactly what to wear. With all that’s going in your life,it’s impossible.

You don’t need to plan a week ahead, but maybe just the day before. That way in the morning you have one less thing to worry about and you’re guarenteed to leave your house looking your best.

Psst, feeling overwhelmed and like you can’t do this all on your own. Check out The Wardrobe Revamp where I coach you through building a functional closet you absolutely love.
